Position Available - Mail Order Assistant - Starting 20th September 2010

We are a small, family run, retail and mail order nursery that specialises in rare and unusual trees and shrubs. We send plants daily all over the U.K. and Europe.

You will be responsible for working with our Mail Order Supervisor to lift, pick and carefully pack plants for postage using bailed straw and paper.

We are a seasonal business with the large majority of our mail order plants being sent out in spring, autumn and winter. In less busy times of year (mainly the summer) you will also be working on on our nursery doing varied jobs such as: watering, potting plants, gardening in our arboretum, weeding, moving plants for sale, general maintenance, etc.

We are looking for a reliable and dedicated individual. Preferably you will have NVQ Horticulture or equivalent qualification or practical experience, be able to work as part of a team and be able to demonstrate knowledge of Health and Safety. Prior plant knowledge is useful but not essential.

  • Hours: 38 – 40 per week.
  • March - October - Starting time: 8.30am / Finish time: 5pm
  • November - February - Starting time: 8.00am / Finish time: 4.30pm
  • Holiday: 4 weeks per year (20 days) plus bank holidays
  • Basic Pay of £5.93 per hour & any Overtime at 1.5x basic

This appointment is subject to a trial period of eight weeks.

We have friendly staff and a relaxed working environment. As we deal with a large selection of rare and unusual plants you can expect to develop a good general plant knowledge and we will offer plant idents initially to help develop your plant identification skills.

We have reduced our packing and carriage charges to only £9.50 for any number of plants delivered to an address on the U.K. mainland!

Our display of unusual trees and shrubs featuring a lovely display of Cornus kousa (Flowering Dogwoods) was awarded a gold medal.

Bluebell Nursery is awarded a gold medal at Gardening Scotland 2009

Our display of unusual trees and shrubs was awarded a gold medal at Gardening Scotland 2009. During the show our stand was visited by Her Royal Highness, Princess Anne who had a discussion with owner Robert Vernon regarding Fagus (Beech) cultivars.

Increased number and size of plant photos on our website!

Changes have been made to our website which allow up to three large photos to be displayed next to each plant, making it easier to pick and choose the right plant for your situation.

The vast majority of the photos on our website have been taken of plants on our nursery or in the lovely woodland garden surrounding us. We will continue to increase the amount of photos on our website as the seasons and years progress!

New Website Categories System

We have introduced a new Categories system which will help you search through our plant database more quickly. Simply click on the Category which interests you to see a selection of suitable plants, listed in alphabetical order.

To further refine your search, click on one of the section headings at the top of the page, for example: Conifers. The categories listed in the 'Conifer' section will automatically filter out all other plants and only show Conifers.



28/12/2008:

We have reduced our mail order delivery charges!

Postage and packing is now £9.50 for the first THREE plants and £1.75 for each additional plant thereafter.

Our plants are hand-packed in sturdy cardboard boxes and delivered using an overnight courier to ensure that they arrive with you safely.

After you have made an order, we will telephone you to arrange a suitable delivery date (Monday to Friday) of your choice and confirm a location in which the parcel(s) can be left, if you are not in when they arrive.
