Description
A beautiful, unusual species which was awarded a First Class Certificate in 1888, less than ten years after its introduction from Japan. Styrax obassia is best known for its fantastic display of large, fragrant, bell-shaped, white flowers with a golden-yellow centre in midsummer.
The attractive leaves are large, pale green, oval and have a distinctive toothed edge. A very small garden tree grown for its exquisite display of flowers.

Position: Sheltered in full sun or light, dappled shade.

Soil: Moist, fertile, lime free soil. Styrax obassia dislikes dry conditions or soils which are prone to drying out during certain times of year.

Hardiness: Hardy. Styrax obassia appreciates shelter from cold winter winds.
