Native South-eastern North America, Oxydendron arboreum is a small tree with dark green leaves that turn fantastic shades of crimson, orange and yellow before falling in autumn. This autumn colour is sensational and will last longest if the Oxydendron is planted in a position which is sheltered from strong gales in late October.
Established trees have white, urn-shaped, fragrant flowers in mid summer which stand out well against the darker leaves. An unusual tree in the United Kingdom, lovely as a standalone specimen or when planted in amongst other trees in a woodland garden.
