Description

A lovely and unusual shrub with colourful flowers which can be found growing in the wild on dry and sunny slopes in the Himalayas from Afghanistan to Western China.

Indigofera heterantha has clusters of deep, purple-rose coloured, pea-like flowers throughout summer which stand out well against the pale green, pinnate leaves.

An elegant flowering shrub which is particularly beautiful when grown against a sunny wall or fence.

Supplied Size: 3L containers (40 - 60 cm tall)


  • Position: Full sun.
  • Soil: Well drained, fertile soil.
  • Hardiness: Somewhat hardy. Indigofera heterantha can suffer from some die back following a very cold winter, however it usually recovers well in the following year.
  • Flowering Period: June - September.
  • Flower Colour: Deep rose-purple
  • Rate of Growth: Moderate.
  • Habit: Medium sized, branching shrub.
    • Height: up to 2.5 m (8 ft).
    • Spread: 2.5 m (8 ft).
  • Notes: This plant was formerly known as Indigofera gerardiana. Please be aware that until established, Indigofera heterantha appear to be a little spindly and bare once they have lost their leaves in winter.
