Description
A deciduous species native to parts of the United States and Canada, Elaeagnus commutata 'Quicksilver' is a spectacular foliage plant with bright silvery leaves and fragrant, creamy flowers in May. Once established, these flowers are followed by stunning silver, egg-shaped fruit, sometimes as large as marbles!

Common name: Silver Berry or Wolf Willow.

Position: Full sun.

Soil: Well drained, fertile soil. Elaeagnus commutata 'Quicksilver' is reasonably drought resistant, but dislikes and will not grow well in shallow, chalky soils.

Hardiness: Reasonably hardy. After a very cold winter, Elaeagnus commutata 'Quicksilver' may suffer some die back, although it will usually recover well and regrow in the following year.

Notes: This plant is tolerant of windy areas. A specimen of Elaeagnus commutata 'Quicksilver', planted in the woodland garden surrounding our nursery had reached a height of 1.5 m and a spread of 2 m after 10 years.
