Description
Native to parts of Japan, Korea and mainland China, Cleyera japonica is an evergreen or eventually very small tree with a distinctive layered habit and attractive, glossy, dark green leaves. Masses of small yet fragrant, creamy flowers appear on the branches in mid summer. The flowers are followed by small red fruit in autumn which turn black as they age. A fascinating and very pretty shrub for a warm, sheltered garden.
