A rare selection of
Cercis discovered growing beside a road in Maryland, USA with masses of exceptional, glowing pinkish-red, pea-shaped flowers on the bare branches in April, before the leaves emerge. The flowers are more red than those of the other
Cercis cultivars listed here. The leaves are dark green and heart-shaped. A spectacular, multi-stemmed garden tree when in full flower.

- Soil: Fertile, well-drained soils. Cercis canadensis 'Appalachian Red' dislikes very wet or poorly drained soils.
