Description

A distinctive form of Canadian Maple, Acer rubrum 'Scanlon' has superb red autumn colour and a reasonably narrow, upright habit. The leaves are lush green in the summer months, turning to rich orange and red in the autumn before falling. The narrow habit makes this cultivar more suitable than the other Acer rubrum listed here for small gardens with limited space.

Features

• Common name: Canadian Maple or Red Maple.
• Position: Full sun or light, dappled shade.
• Soil: Any well drained, fertile soil. The autumn colour will be more intense in more acidic soils!
• Hardiness: Hardy. Grows better when sheltered from severe wind as the branches can be a little brittle and will be prone to breaking in very windy gardens.
• Rate of Growth: Moderate to vigorous.
• Habit: Medium sized somewhat narrow tree.
